“To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life.” (W. Somerset Maugham)
I’ve not always been an avid reader, although I have read since childhood. I’ve always wanted to read more, even now, when even apart from the reading for studies I read more than I have ever done. The following article at lifehack offers 14 ways to cultivate a lifetime reading habit. It’s very practical and worth reading for those wanting to read more, or even for new tips for those with an established reading habit. I especially liked the “Tech Trick” about creating an email account to store a list of books. I’m always loosing pieces of papers with book recommendations on them.
I’m currently reaching the end of The Travels of Ibn Battutah and need to chose where to travel next…Perhaps Marco Polo’s writings might serve as worthwhile contrast?

Indeed reading a variety of books ensures that one is not narrow minded.
Umm LOL Cats,
Thank you for comment- reading broadens ones horizons, of course. The key as you’ve said is a variety of books otherwise this will limit the mind.

Jazak’Allah for the post and great link. Those a wonderful tips listed. I totally agree.. the internet (and t.v) can take a lot of reading time away… I was doing so good, until I got a new computer (alhumduliLlah). Insha’Allah I’ll get back into reading on a regular basis.
Yup, the Tech Trick is pretty cool. You may want to check this site out too: http://www.librarything.com/

Peace, mercy and blessings be upon you Farhana,
I think we could all read more- the difficult thing is to make it regular- whatever we read. If its regaular we can achieve something, progress, further our knowledge, otherwise it remains quite ad hock.
The link is interesting, thank you for bringing it my attention.
