The World is three days:
As for yesterday, it has vanished,
along with all that was in it.
As for tomorrow, you may never see it.
As for today, it is yours, so work in it.
(Hassan al-Basri)
The nightmares of the past, the only today and the unseen dreams of future have been each covered in turn.
The likeness of these is that of a leaf upon a tree.
The past is like a dried leaf; it once grew green, once revealed its Autumn gold and is now shrivelled and dry. Nothing can bring back the gold or the green and nor will it ever fall again.
Today is like a lush green leaf; full of potential and vigour- but it is destined to fall in its Autumn gold and become shrivelled.
The future is like a seed; nobody can know whether a great oak lies inside or when the seeding might emerge if indeed it will.
The above quote summarises and concludes the series eloquently. Today is ours, so let us work.

Yesterday – Today -Tomorrow

I like your reflections. Happy New Year! Wishing you much Happiness & Success.
How did you come up with don’t be sad?
Mari-Lyn
Peace be upon you Mari-Lyn,
Thank you for your kind comments and taking the time to make them. Thank you for not being a silent reader.
I’m glad you find the New reflections series of value.
Don’t be sad was inspired by a number of things but primarily by the book Don’t be sad by ‘Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qarni. You can see the Don’t be sad about page for further details.
Each of the other projects- which I encourage you to have a looked at (the colourful buttons above)- have been other developing themes.
Please do visit don’t be sad again, it was good to have you here.
Happy New Year, Don’t Be Sad! I wish you happiness, health and love. I like the metaphor of a seed for the future!
Peace by upon you Paul,
Thank you for coming by to visit and not leaving silently. I’m glad the received some feedback on the metaphors. Until now they’ve only existed inside my mind- so its good to know they make at least some sense.
Hope you will pass by Don’t be sad again, it would be great to have your feedback again. May this year bring with it justice for those who are suffering injustice in the word.
Absolutely beautiful. Your metaphors are quite timely, and they really go to the heart of the matter—I like how the tree imagery reflects the cyclical nature of time and the seasons (the green leaves today will be withered tomorrow; etc.).
And I love the ending quotation: “Today is ours, so let us work.” This moment is indeed all we truly have.
Thank you for sharing these New Year’s Reflections, Don’t Be Sad—I’ve found them to be quite inspiring.
As Sallamu Alaikum:
Nice blog you got going here. Looking forward to your next post.
Peace be upon you Baekho and Umm Abdurrahman
Baekho-Kind of you to visit Don’t be sad again.
Your comments and views are greatly valued.
Today is let us settle our disagreements, forget our grudges and move forward- as does everything in the world, in its own intrinsic rhythm- from the tick of a second to movement of the celestial bodies causing the great changes of seasons.
Nothing is stagnant-
Let us work and not be left wanting. There is a phrase in Latin that that I know- dum tempus habemus operemur bonum- translates loosely as ‘while we have time let us do good.’
Umm Abdurrahman- Thank you for visiting Don’t be sad.
Do feel most welcome here and I look forward to reading your views here. Please do come again.
jazakallah khair for sharing that, awesome blog.
Peace be upon you Fastaqim,

[...] Destroy boredom by working. [...]
SubhanAllah! I have to continuously remind myself of the wisdom presented in this post.
My father in law turned 87, he is retired but works non stop all day with a smile. I have never heard him complain of a body ache or personal medical problem in a conversation.
It is energizing to be with him, He can bicycle faster and longer than me!
May ALlah give us that vigor for the right reasons and for me give me the stamina for tahajud and praying the rest ON TIME!
May Allah reward you for making this advice come alive with your lovely pictures!
Peace be upon you,
Good of you to comment. Its curious your contribution comes now, even though the post is branded as “New years…” Actually you are one of the first to realise, these words of wisdom and truths are actually time-less. The example you mentioned is an example to us all. May The God bless your father-in-law.
The words are not mine neither are the photographs mine. I’ve done very little and am just an excuse for the message to reach the reader.
Thank you for your encouraging comments and continuing to support Dont be sad.
Do come again.
